Hey y’all!
It is finally getting warmer- like actually warm enough for shorts and tank tops outside! I wanted to share how I will be getting my tan for the summer. I have tried a lot of different methods and products for getting tanner. I have figured out what products work and help maintain your tan!

First: You need to prepare your skin. This is my favorite body scrub from Ulta! Exfoliating helps rejuvenate your skin and gets rid of dead skin cells. This product in particular has a moisturizer in it as well, which is even better! I would use this at least once a week! Don’t exfoliate too much because it can cause your skin to feel raw and irritated. It will foster in keeping your skin clean, and smooth!

Secondly, as much as you may not want to, you need to get a quality tanning lotion. They will help your tan by about 40-70% more than without a quality lotion. They are expensive, but it will be worth it. The one above is one I have used and been successful with. You can find this one and more like it at a local tanning salon. I love it, it gives you a glow and smells great!

Another tip, you may not like is take your time.. You do not want to lay in the tanning bed for 20 minutes the first time you go. You will burn, and you won’t be able to lay for about a week or more after you burn. Start at about 6-8 minutes the first couple of times to get your skin gradually tan. Also, don’t tan everyday. Go every other day or even every third day. Once you get a good base tan, going once or twice a week is great! Slow and steady wins this race!

Super important tip, wear these! or cover your face with a towel. I typically will not get my face tanned, you can match your skin using bronzer in your makeup routine. If you do tan your face, then you will need these. Everyone opens their eyes in the tanning bed and it is terrible for you. Wear these!

One of the final things you want to make sure you do, is moisturize after tanning. Moisturize everyday to keep the healthy skin and it will also help you maintain your tan. This is my favorite lotion to use, but you can find high end lotions at the tanning salon or other beauty product stores. Moisturize everyday!

Lastly, to maintain your tan all year round without going to the tanning bed too much are these St. Tropez products! You can find them at Ulta Beauty also. They are amazing. I used the lotion to gradually get a tan before a vacation and I will be using this in the colder months when I won’t be going to the tanning bed as much. You will need to buy a new mit after about 10 uses. These work amazing though!
A few general tips:
- Moisturize before and after
- Exfoliate once a week
- Don’t Burn
- DRINK WATER
- Dark Chocolate and Green Tea can help reverse the effects of tanning (find the research here)
Enjoy Life With A Side of Laurel!
